The Malaysian PM receives a warm welcome upon arrival in Vietnam.
Malaysian PM Ibrahim, his wife and his entourage arrive on July 20 in Hanoi, marking the start of a two-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart PM Chinh.
This represents the first official visit to Vietnam since he took office in December last year. The trip is taking place amid both nations celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, which were first established in 1973. The two countries later upgraded their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2015.

Following the welcome ceremony, the pair hold talks and witness the signing of co-operation documents between the two countries.
Last year’s bilateral trade exceeded US$14.8 billion, up 17.9% on-year. Malaysia is also among the top 10 investors in the Vietnamese market with 718 valid projects totally capitalised at US$13 billion.
The two-day official visit to the nation by Malaysian PM Ibrahim is expected to help further enhance the relations that exist between the two close neighbours and partners in ASEAN.
The opening event on January 27 was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Malaysia, Dinh Ngoc Linh and his wife, Mohamed Amin – Senior Director in charge of events and domestic tourism in Malaysia, Mohamad Shahrir – Senior Deputy Director of the ASEAN region under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture of Malaysia, and several representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysian businesses, and overseas Vietnamese. Following the lion dance performance to kick off the festival, Tran Thi Chang, President of the Malaysia-Vietnam Friendship Association, gave a speech expressing her delight at the participation of overseas Vietnamese in the event.
