The expert team from the Archaeological Survey of India, under the Indian Ministry of Culture, has started surveying the tower in Tuy Hoa City, as the first step towards its preservation and refurbishment. This restoration plan was established based on a memorandum of understanding signed between the Vietnamese and Indian governments. On Sunday, the Indian experts measured the tower, used drones to capture the relic, and created 3D scans of the structures for data collection. Due to its deteriorated state over the years, the Tuy Hoa authorities have requested the Indian experts to propose suitable repair and recovery solutions. The team plans to replace damaged bricks, treat cracks, reinforce structures, remove harmful organisms, and clean up the inside of the tower. The Embassy has prepared approximately 50kg of Dong leaves so a total of 230 Chung cakes can be made for the occasion. Making the Chung cakes has been an age-old tradition among Vietnamese people for several generations to prepare for the arrival of Tet. Grill, 41, dons an Áo the, a traditional Vietnamese outfit, and Khăn xếp, a Vietnamese kind of turban, like other local calligraphers. He recently won second prize at a Vietnamese national contest of writing calligraphy. Grill has been studying Vietnamese for seven years, and he is now living and working in the country. Grill’s calligraphy piece is also picked for display at an exhibition during the festival, together with 39 other pieces. Grill is a graphic designer who had been living and working in France. He first began to study Vietnamese calligraphy in 2015. He says he would like to popularise Vietnamese culture among European tourists. Through his calligraphic pieces of work, he hopes to introduce a peaceful and developing nation imbued with a rich cultural identity to other foreigners.
