Planting of Vietnam-Japan friendship trees in Da Nang

The JBAD is initiating a tree plantation project in collaboration with Japanese enterprises in Da Nang. This project is part of a series of activities planned for 2023 that aim to strengthen the relationship between Vietnam and Japan, as well as Japan and Da Nang, according to Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen, Vice Chairman of the Union. Tuyen stated that the star apple trees, which will be grown in Lien Chieu District’s Park, will serve as a symbol of the close and enduring ties between the two countries, as well as between Da Nang and its Japanese partners. Hirayama Keiji, Head of JCCID, described these star apple trees as a representative symbol of the longstanding and robust relationship between Japan and Vietnam. US artists to hold painting exhibition in Da Nang

About 40 US artists will participate in the exhibition which has been designed in two spaces. The first space, themed “Finding Parkinsons” will display artworks by painter David Thomas who was born in Portland, Maine, in 1946. He joined the US Army in 1968 and was subsequently sent to Vietnam to serve as a combat engineer/artist for one year from April 11, 1969, to April 10, 1970. After leaving the US Army, Thomas then joined the Vietnam Veterans Against the War to protest US involvement in Vietnam, with many of his artworks focusing on the anti-war movement. In 2000, he was awarded the “Vietnam Art Medal” by the Vietnamese Government in recognition of his contributions to the arts. The second space will bring together artworks of 37 members of the Boston Printmakers.
