International Women’s Day held for foreign female prisoners in Vietnam

Marking International Women’s Day 2023, the detention camp holds a special event for all women prisoners – a spiritual source of encouragement for them during prison terms,  Vinh Quang is the only detention camp in northern Vietnam that detains women prisoners of different nationalities. In the photo, all prisoners are eager to partake in an art programme to mark International Women’s Day. Among the foreign prisoners is an Indonesian woman (in the picture) who had been arrested for illegally transporting five kg of heroin to Vietnam. This was the first time that the 36-year-old woman arrived in the country. Female prisoners receive gifts from relatives abroad through foreign embassies in Vietnam. Ha Giang province ready to host first Moc Mien flower festival

The event will mark the first time that the festival has been held in Ha Giang province, with the aim of promoting the special cultural features of the ethnic minority group in mountainous area whilst simultaneously developing the local tourism sector. The festival will involve a wide range of activities such as ethnic costume competition, and Khen flute performance of Mong ethnic group. During the event tourists will have opportunities to enjoy taking photos in Moc Mien flower gardens; visiting Dong Van Karst Plateau, a UNESCO-recognized Global Geopark; and planting Moc Mien trees. It is part of a traditional festival to celebrate the Khen flute of the Mong ethnic group who reside in Ha Giang province. Vietnamese female photographer wins international photo award

Photographer Khanh Phan’s work entitled “Floral Dress” has won the Grand Prize in the 2023 SkyPixel Annual Photo & Video Contest. The results were announced early this month. The award-winning photo of waterlilies by Khanh Phan According to Khanh Phan, the photo, taken in October 2022 in Long An’s Moc Hoa District, shows waterlilies collected by local women that look like a flower dress in the water. Her photo beat out 60,000 others submitted by photographers from around the world. In the caption of the work submitted to the contest, Khanh Phan wrote: “These women are harvesting waterlilies and forming a floral dress on the water. This beautiful scenery can be seen during the flood season in the southern provinces of Vietnam including Long An, Tien Giang, Dong Thap and Vinh Long “. Photo: Le Van The person that connects with the K’Ho farmers to help bring Langbiang to different countries around the world is a Japanese businessman that has an immense love for Vietnam. He is Kiyokata Yamaoka, who is 43 years old and has lived for more than 10 years in Vietnam. “It all began with a trip. Kiyo never thought that after 13 years, he would choose to settle down in this country, and got married to a Vietnamese woman,” 33 – year – old Tran Vu My Trinh, who is his wife, shared. At the foot of Langbiang mountain, this season is in the pre-harvest processing of coffee. Trinh and Kiyo are busy with an order of 5 tons of coffee that is about to be exported to Japan in 2023. A special day for the elderly at Hanoi care centre

The centre is home to nearly 160 people, among them are over 70 senior citizens. Many people have lived there for between 10 to 20 years. For the elderly, living in the same house and having friends nearby to talk to serve as a great source of encouragement for them for the rest of their lives. Ky sings a song in four languages as a special gift to women at the centre on International Women’s Day on March 8. Singing and talking with each other give them happiness each day. Hoang Thi Kim Loan, 85, (R) can’t remember the exact time when she moved to the centre, but she says living there helps her feel happy and have no loneliness each day. The care given by nurses and the company of her friends makes her feel as if every day is a celebration for International Women’s Day.
