Vietnam aim at 2030 FIFA World Cup qualification
Other targets set out for the team, currently 96th in FIFA rankings, at Sunday’s VFF congress, which elected Tran Quoc Tuan as its new president, included becoming one of the 10 strongest football teams in Asia and advancing to the third qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Asia.
On the continental scale, their objectives are qualifying for the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and the finals of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
The team will also aim to reach the three final matches of the AFF Cup in 2022, 2024, and 2026 and win at least once.
For the junior men’s team, VFF desires them to be qualified for the finals and achieve a high ranking at the AFC U23 Asian Cup in 2024 and 2026, as well as successfully defend the gold medal at the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in 2023 and 2025.
For the national men’s futsal team, placing 40th in the world, they must be among the three strongest teams in Southeast Asia and qualify for the finals of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup in 2024 and 2026, as well as the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup.
VFF also aims to bring the national women’s football team, 34th in FIFA rankings, to the top six in Asia, prepare them well for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals — which they have qualified for the first time — and have them successfully defend the championship at the SEA Games in 2023 and 2025.
