In the video released by the US Embassy on November 18, Ambassador Knapper had an online conversation in Vietnamese with the Vietnamese teacher for the Ambassador at the US Diplomatic Academy – Hanh McPherson.

At the beginning of the conversation, the diplomat quoted a saying in Vietnamese that is ‘Khong thay do may lam nen’ (Nothing can succeed without the help of the teacher). He also expressed respect and gratitude to Hanh who had taught Vietnamese to him.

According to Ambassador Marc Knapper, speaking Vietnamese is very important when he works in Vietnam and he always tries to speak in Vietnamese with Vietnamese Government officials.

For her part, Hanh McPherson also thanked the Ambassador for choosing to learn Vietnamese and for taking the time and effort to learn about Vietnamese culture. This is truly a precious thing, she said.

Talking about his current life in Hanoi, Ambassador Knapper shared that that it’s autumn in Hanoi now and for him this is the most beautiful season. The US Ambassador is delighted to be back in Hanoi to experience this season once more.

In a conversation with the teacher, he said that 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive cooperative relationship between the two countries. “Our aim is to elevate the relationship between the two countries to a strategic partnership,” the ambassador said.

The Vietnamese Teachers’ Day as an opportunity to express respect and gratitude to teachers who have been making great contributions to human resources development of the country.
